beabadoobee–Fake It Flowers

She’s young, she’s indie and most importantly her debut album is chock-full of catchy songs.

Billie Eilish–Happier Than Ever

The first musician born this century to top the charts, Eilish’s sophomore effort is alt for all ages. Eilish is also releasing a single of her song from the James Bond movie No Time To Die as a Black Friday exclusive.

Olivia Rodrigo–Sour

“Driver’s License” was the inescapable song of the summer, and Rodrigo is all the rage with teens who think Billie Eilish is their older sister’s music.

Ed Sheeran–=

He may be a little tame for some, but fifty million Ed Sheeran fans can’t be wrong, can they?

For The College and Twenty-Something Indie-Loving Crowd:

Courtney Barnett–Things Take Time, Take Time

Barnett’s third studio effort is more drum-machine-centric and introspective but still maintains her high standards.

Lana del Rey–Chemtrails Over the Country Club*

The first of del Rey’s two 2021 efforts is being released on cobalt vinyl with an exclusive cover for Black Friday.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats–The Future

After a solo effort, local hero Rateliff returns with his full band for his usual high-energy rave-up.

Thundercat–The Golden Age of Apocalypse (10th Anniversary Edition)*

Thundercat’s 2011 debut forged new ground for bass-players, and he’s enlivened records by Kamasi Washington, Kendrick Lamar and others in the ensuing years.

The War on Drugs–I Don’t Live Here Anymore

Philly’s leading musical export just released their first album of anthemic new rock in four years.

For Millennials and Middle-Agers:

Aimee Mann–Queens of the Summer Hotel

Inspired by Susanna Keysen’s Girl, Interrupted, Mann sets sad lyrics about depression to lilting melodies on this soundtrack to a stage production that never materialized.

Robert Plant/Alison Krauss–Raise The Roof

It only took this unique pair fourteen years to follow-up the great Raising Sand. The resulting effort, once again led by T-Bone Burnett, is worth the wait.

Radiohead–Kid A Mnesiac

Radiohead expanded the rock landscape with Kid A; this 3-LP set is a deep dive into their creative apex that adds an album full of previously unreleased tracks.

For Mothers of All Ages:

Adele–30

First single “Easy On You” shattered all streaming records. 2022 looks to be the Year of Adele thanks to her powerful voice and universal appeal.

Fleetwood Mac–Alternate Live*

This 2-LP set pulls material from a box set previously only available on CD.

Carole King–In Concert-Live at the BBC 1971*

New to vinyl and previously only available as a bootleg, this album spotlights King at her best in 1971, the year that Tapestry was the biggest selling record in the world.

Joni Mitchell–Archives, Vol.2: The Reprise Years (1968-71)

Mitchell follows her recent series of rereleases from her late sixties and early seventies peak with a 5-CD box of rarities that includes a show recorded by Jimi Hendrix. The vinyl companion is Live at Carnegie Hall 1969, a 3-LP set.

For Hippies and Haight-Ashbury Lovers:

The Beatles–Let It Be

Peter Jackson’s incredible recasting of these legendary Beatles sessions is accompanied by a reissue of the classic, last Beatles LP (in terms of release date) in a variety of formats.

Big Brother & The Holding Company (Featuring Janis Joplin)–Combination of the Two: Live at Monterey Pop Festival*

Janis was so good at Monterey that they booked her for a second set that same weekend immediately after her first one ended. Both sets are out on vinyl for Black Friday.

Jerry Garcia Band–Jerry Garcia Band

This stellar live set from 1991 features some of Garcia’s best work with the latter-day lineup of his solo band. The 5-LP set is sure to sell fast since it is new to vinyl.

Grateful Dead–Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO 12/10/71

This 5-LP box features an entire show from shortly after Keith Godchaux added his keyboards to the band’s sound. Taken from Listen To The River, the recent 20-CD (!) box that features seven shows from 1971-1973 in the Gateway City, this particular concert includes a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph,” only performed by the Dead six times, all in December of 1971.

Jimi Hendrix Experience–Paris ‘67*

The original power trio play all of the hits from Are You Experienced for a Paris club crowd.

Little Feat–Electrif Lycanthrope: Live at Ultra-Sonic Studios 1974*

This scorching set from a few years before Waiting for Columbus features an edgier, more rocking version of Little Feat.

Bob Marley–The Capitol Session ‘73

A recently unearthed gem that finds Marley and The Wailers (sans Bunny Livingston) catching fire in a small studio shortly after being kicked off the Sly and the Family Stone Tour for supposedly not connecting with audiences.

For Your Country-Music-Loving Uncle:

Johnny Cash–At The Carousel Ballroom, April 24, 1968

From the archives of Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Grateful Dead soundman/LSD supplier, comes this rare recording of Johnny, June and the Tennessee Three from a venue more known for hallucinations than hoedowns.

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit–Georgia Blue*

No stranger to political statements, Isbell conceived this 2-LP set of covers of classics from Georgia’s finest composers as a “Thank You” to the state for turning blue in 2020.

For The Soundtrack Lover:

John Carpenter–John Carpenter’s Ghost of Mars*

An all-star cast including members of Anthrax, The Cars and Nine Inch Nails creates a sonic palette for Carpenter’s apocalyptic visions.

The Munsters–At Home With The Munsters*

Herman Munster and his TV sitcom family of goths might have been a knockoff of The Addams Family, but it was still a classic; this album, originally released in 1964, features songs and stories from the whole gang.

Various Artists-Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou*

Pushed back from the spring, this soundtrack featuring Seu Jorge’s acoustic Bowie covers is as quirky as the Wes Anderson film it scored.

John Coltrane–A Love Supreme: Live in Seattle

This newly discovered show is only the second known live recording of Coltrane’s most famous work, and features a seven-piece band.
